How do you know if your best work is behind you?
Nathaniel Quinn: Filmmaker
Best known for his poetic World War I feature film, Reconnaissance, starring the late Brian Kingsley and released to critical acclaim a decade ago, Mr. Quinn largely retired from the entertainment business. He now works mainly in the intimate theater and performance art space of Los Angeles. A huge advocate for the LGBTQ community, Nathaniel and husband Peter Hearndon, C.E.O. of OutProudTV, were one of the first gay couples legally married in the state of California.

July 26, 2018 at 6:06 amI can’t think like that. It’s an impossible question to answer anyway. As artists, the most valuable pieces of our oeuvre may not be settled until long after our death. So even if you’re convinced and everybody else alive is convinced that a painting you did in 1983 was your best work, future generations may decide that actually it was something you created near the end of your life.

July 26, 2018 at 6:35 amIt better be, every time. I hate to repeat the old saying (maybe not so old). You are really only as good as your last work.
